Orthoceras are the fossilized remains of an extinct marine animal of Cephalopod family. They are ancestors to the modern day squid and octopus.
Orthoceras, meaning “straight horn”, referring to the characteristic long, straight, conical shell, are the fossilized remains of a prehistoric cephalopod dating back to the Ordovician period about 400 million years ago.
